A comprehensive training course on outdoor fitness equipment, parkour facilities, and skatepark safety standards! This one-day course combines in-depth training on three essential standards: AS16630:2021, AS EN 16899:2020, and AS EN 14974:2021. Whether you are a manufacturer, installer, inspector, or simply someone passionate about promoting safety and fitness, this training is designed for you.
Course Structure
Our comprehensive training program combines three Standards:
Permanently Installed Outdoor Fitness Equipment – Safety Requirements and Test Methods (AS 16630:2021): This session will cover general safety requirements for the manufacturer, installation, inspection, and maintenance of installed, freely accessible outdoor fitness equipment. We will focus on equipment intended for youths and adults, with a height greater than 1400 mm, promoting fitness and physical activity across a wide range of abilities. Topics covered include:

Sports and Recreation Equipment – Parkour Equipment (AS EN 16899:2020): Explore the world of Parkour equipment, focusing on the design and layout of parkour facilities, “flow” routes, and the essential attributes required for Parkour, such as strength, fitness, balance, agility, and more. This standard is designed for users starting from 8 years of age and aims to protect users from unforeseen hazards. The training will cover:
- Installation and Maintenance Requirements
- Area, Height, and Flow Considerations
- Safety Requirements
- Structural Integrity and Loading
- Impact Attenuating Surfacing
- Entanglement Prevention
- Inspection and Maintenance
Skateparks (AS EN 14974:2021): This session is dedicated to skateparks for public use, catering to users of skateboards, roller sports equipment, and BMX bikes. Safety standards for testing, marking, user information, inspection, and maintenance will be explored. The course includes:

Learning Outcomes
- Comprehensive understanding of safety requirements and test methods for outdoor fitness equipment, including knowledge of design, movement space, training space, and entrapment prevention.
- In-depth knowledge of the design and layout of parkour facilities, including considerations for installation, maintenance, and structural integrity, as well as an understanding of impact attenuating surfacing and entanglement prevention.
- Proficiency in understanding safety standards for skateparks, including materials and fastenings, safety requirements for design and construction, and knowledge of skate elements, barriers, and coping.
- Ability to assess and conduct inspections for outdoor recreational facilities, identifying potential hazards and ensuring compliance with safety standards.
- Familiarity with manufacturer’s information and the importance of signage in promoting safety awareness within recreational facilities.
- Enhanced understanding of AS16630:2021, AS EN 16899:2020, and AS EN 14974:2021 standards and their practical application in promoting safety and physical activity in community settings.
- Insight into the significance of promoting safety and fitness within the community and the role of comprehensive training in achieving these goals.

Certified Playground Safety Inspector Australia (CPSIA) courses were developed by Expert Auditor and Trainer Ms. Lynnel Crockart who previously delivered these courses with PlayRight Australia for 20 years.
In Australia, no occupational licensing, legislative or certification requirements are known to apply to playground safety courses as of time of publication.

“Individuals performing tasks such as assessment, inspection, repair and maintenance of a playground shall be competent to perform the task that they are taking…
All playground inspections shall be performed by a competent person.
The post-installation and comprehensive inspections shall be performed by a person who has training and experience that enables them to perform a full conformity check to AS 4685 (series). Impact testing in accordance to AS 4422 requires the capability to operate specialized equipment and interpret the results. These inspections do not need to be carried out by the same person or organization.”

There are no existing units of competency for outdoor exercise, parkour and skateparks course.
